Our Story
Lion City Canvas & Upholstery started from a simple observation: finding skilled canvas and upholstery work in Singapore was harder than it should be. Boat owners struggled to find marine canvas fabricators who understood the demands of tropical saltwater environments. Homeowners looking to reupholster a favourite sofa were quoted weeks of waiting and prices that made replacement seem more sensible. Restaurant owners needed awnings but could not find a single supplier who would handle the design, fabrication, and installation without subcontracting half the work.
We set out to be the one workshop that handles it all — from the initial measurement to the final installation. No middlemen, no subcontractors for the core work. When you engage Lion City Canvas, the people who measure your space are the same people who cut the fabric, sew the covers, build the frames, and install the finished product. This direct approach means better quality control, faster turnaround, and honest pricing.
Registered under Starspire Pte. Ltd. (UEN 201734852K), we operate from our workshop in Singapore where we handle everything from a single sofa cushion to large-scale marine canvas projects for yacht owners at ONE15 Marina and Raffles Marina. Our client base spans residential homeowners, F&B operators, hotels, marine vessel owners, event companies, construction firms, and government agencies.
What We Do
Our work spans three core areas, each requiring a different set of skills but sharing the same foundation: precision cutting, expert sewing, quality materials, and durable construction.
Marine Canvas and Upholstery
We fabricate boat canvas covers, bimini tops, cockpit enclosures, helm station covers, and flybridge covers for vessels berthed in Singapore. Marine work demands the highest standards — saltwater, UV exposure, diesel fumes, and constant vibration destroy inferior materials within months. Every marine project uses marine-grade Sunbrella fabric, 316 stainless steel hardware, and UV-resistant thread. We measure and fit on-board, at your marina berth.
Furniture Upholstery
Our sofa reupholstery service restores worn sofas, armchairs, dining chairs, and ottomans to better-than-new condition. We strip the old fabric, inspect and repair the frame and springs, replace foam and padding where needed, and reupholster in your choice of fabric or leather. We work with Italian leather, performance fabrics, and designer textiles. For outdoor furniture, we re-sling pool chairs and replace cushion covers using Phifertex and Sunbrella fabrics rated for tropical outdoor use.
Canvas Fabrication and Shade Structures
We design, fabricate, and install canvas awnings, canopies, shade sails, and tentage for commercial and residential properties across Singapore. Every structure is custom-built — we weld the steel frames, powder-coat for corrosion resistance, and fabricate the canvas covers in our workshop. No pre-made kits or off-the-shelf solutions.
Our Commitment to Quality Materials
The materials we use determine how long our work lasts. In Singapore's tropical climate — with year-round UV exposure, 80-90% humidity, heavy monsoon rains, and salt air near the coast — cheap materials fail quickly. Fabric fades, foam collapses, stitching rots, and metal corrodes. We have seen the results of inferior work too many times, and we refuse to cut corners on materials.
- Sunbrella — our primary fabric for marine canvas, awnings, and outdoor cushions. Solution-dyed acrylic that resists fading for 10+ years. UPF 50+ UV protection. Mould-resistant. The global standard for outdoor fabric in tropical climates.
- Phifertex — woven vinyl-coated polyester mesh for outdoor furniture sling replacement. Resists mould, mildew, and chlorine. Used on pool deck chairs, outdoor dining chairs, and commercial furniture across Singapore's hotels and resorts.
- Marine-grade hardware — 316 stainless steel snaps, zippers (YKK Aquaguard), fasteners, and frame fittings for all marine work. 316 stainless resists saltwater corrosion; lower grades pit and rust within months in Singapore's marine environment.
- Premium foams and padding — Dryfast foam for outdoor cushions (drains water, resists mould), high-density polyurethane foam for indoor upholstery (maintains shape for years), and Dacron wrap for cushion plumpness.
- Serge Ferrari and Sauleda — tensile membranes and fire-rated awning fabrics for commercial projects that require specific performance certifications.
We source directly from authorised distributors in Singapore and the region. Every fabric we use comes with the manufacturer's warranty, and we provide our own workmanship guarantee on top of that.
Why Choose Lion City Canvas
There are many upholstery shops and canvas suppliers in Singapore. Here is what makes us different.
Everything In-House
Measurement, design, cutting, sewing, frame fabrication, powder coating, and installation — all done by our team. No subcontracting means consistent quality and direct accountability.
Marine Expertise
We understand the specific demands of marine environments. Saltwater corrosion, UV degradation, and vibration fatigue require specialised materials and construction techniques that general upholsterers simply do not have.
Honest Pricing
We quote based on actual material costs and labour time. No inflated estimates, no surprise add-ons. Our pricing page shows transparent ranges so you know what to expect before you even contact us.
Fast Turnaround
Because everything is done in-house, we control the schedule. Most sofa reupholstery jobs are completed in 1 to 2 weeks. Marine canvas projects take 2 to 3 weeks. We do not make promises we cannot keep.
Island-Wide Service
We serve all of Singapore — from landed homes in Bukit Timah to condos in Punggol, marinas at Sentosa Cove to industrial sites in Tuas. Collection and delivery are part of our service for furniture upholstery.
Proven Track Record
We have completed projects for residential homeowners, commercial F&B operators, five-star hotels, yacht owners, event companies, and government agencies. Our work speaks for itself in durability and finish quality.
Our Values
Three principles guide every project we take on.
Do it once, do it right. We would rather spend extra time on proper construction than rush a job and have it fail in six months. Every seam is double-stitched. Every frame joint is fully welded, not tack-welded. Every fabric is tensioned correctly before final fitting. This approach costs us more in labour, but it means our work lasts — and that is what brings clients back.
Use the right materials. We never substitute cheaper alternatives without discussing it with the client first. If Sunbrella is specified, Sunbrella is what goes on. If 316 stainless steel is needed, we do not downgrade to 304. Materials are not where we save money — they are where we invest it.
Be straight with clients. If a sofa frame is not worth reupholstering, we say so. If an awning design will not work in your location, we explain why and suggest alternatives. If a job will take three weeks, we do not promise two. Honest communication builds trust, and trust builds long-term relationships.
Serving All of Singapore
Our workshop is our base, but our work happens all over the island. We collect and deliver furniture for upholstery projects. We measure and install marine canvas at every marina in Singapore — ONE15, Raffles Marina, Republic of Singapore Yacht Club, SAFYC, and private berths. We install awnings and canopies from Changi to Jurong, Woodlands to Sentosa.
For commercial projects, we work with property managers, interior designers, F&B consultants, marine surveyors, and event planners. We understand that our work is often one component of a larger project, and we coordinate our timelines with yours to avoid holding up your schedule.
Whether you need a single cushion re-covered or a fleet of boat covers fabricated, the process starts the same way: a conversation about what you need, an honest assessment, and a clear quote. No project is too small, and no project is too complex.
