Boat Seat Upholstery Singapore — Marine Cushion and Boat Cushion Reupholstery

Custom boat seat upholstery for yachts, motorboats, and sailing boats in Singapore. Marine cushion reupholstery using UV-resistant vinyl and Sunbrella fabric with closed-cell foam. Measured at your marina berth, fabricated in our workshop.

Marine Seat Upholstery for Singapore Boats

Boat seat upholstery in Singapore takes a beating unlike anything on land. Your marine cushions face UV radiation at index 10 to 14 for twelve hours every day, salt spray that dries into abrasive crystals on every surface, humidity above 80% that breeds mould in any material that traps moisture, and tropical rain that soaks unprotected seats within minutes. Standard furniture upholstery materials — the kind used for household sofas — fail catastrophically in this environment. Vinyl cracks and peels. Foam absorbs water and grows black mould. Thread rots. Colour fades to a washed-out ghost of the original within a single season.

Lion City Canvas specialises in boat cushion reupholstery using materials engineered specifically for tropical marine conditions. Every cushion we upholster uses closed-cell marine foam that does not absorb water and UV-resistant marine-grade vinyl or Sunbrella fabric that withstands years of equatorial sun exposure. We sew with bonded polyester thread that is rot-proof and UV-stabilised.

We work with boat owners across all Singapore marinas — from ONE15 Marina Sentosa Cove and Raffles Marina to the Republic of Singapore Yacht Club, Marina at Keppel Bay, and Changi Sailing Club. Our team visits your berth to measure cushions, discuss materials and colours, and collect the cushions for workshop reupholstery.

What We Upholster — Every Seat on Your Boat

Helm Seats

Captain's chairs and helm seats including bucket seats, pedestal seats, and bolster seats. Full reupholstery with new marine vinyl, foam replacement, and rebuilt internal structure if needed. Matching or upgrading the original colour scheme.

Cockpit Cushions

Settee cushions, bench seats, and cockpit sole cushions. Custom-shaped to fit your cockpit layout precisely. Closed-cell foam with drainage channels for quick drying. Available in marine vinyl or Sunbrella acrylic depending on exposure level.

Transom and Aft Seats

Transom bench cushions, aft lounge pads, and swim platform seats. These seats get the most water exposure and need fully waterproof construction with marine vinyl, sealed seams, and quick-drain foam.

Bow Cushions and Sun Pads

Bow rider cushions, foredeck sun pads, and forward lounge areas. Often the most UV-exposed seats on the boat. We use premium UV-resistant vinyl with reinforced stitching and thick closed-cell foam for maximum comfort on long anchor days.

Salon and Cabin Cushions

Interior salon settee cushions, V-berth mattresses, and cabin seating. While less exposed to direct weather, interior marine cushions still need mould-resistant foam and breathable fabric in Singapore's perpetual humidity. Sunbrella fabric is ideal for interior applications.

Flybridge Cushions

Flybridge lounge cushions and seating for motor yachts. Fully exposed to weather and UV. We fabricate with the most durable marine vinyl and thickest foam to handle continuous exposure at the highest point of the vessel.

Why Marine-Grade Materials Matter

The difference between marine-grade and standard upholstery materials is not marketing — it is the difference between cushions that last 5 to 8 years and cushions that self-destruct in 6 months on a Singapore boat.

Component Marine Grade Standard (Furniture Grade)
Vinyl/Fabric UV-stabilised, mould-resistant, salt-spray rated, colour-fast for 5+ years Cracks, fades, and peels within 6-12 months in marine environment
Foam Closed-cell, does not absorb water, drains in seconds, mould-resistant Open-cell, absorbs water like sponge, grows mould within days, collapses
Thread Bonded polyester, UV-resistant, rot-proof Nylon or cotton — rots, breaks down in UV and salt water
Zippers YKK marine grade, self-lubricating, salt-resistant Standard metal — corrodes, seizes, stains fabric with rust
Lifespan in Singapore 5-8 years (8-10 with cockpit cover) 6-18 months before visible degradation

Our Marine Upholstery Process

1

Marina Visit and Assessment

We visit your boat at its marina berth. We inspect every cushion, assess the condition of existing foam and covers, measure dimensions, and photograph the current setup. We bring material samples so you can choose vinyl or fabric colours and textures on the spot, comparing against your boat's existing colour scheme. This visit is free.

2

Quotation and Material Selection

Within 48 hours, we provide a detailed quotation listing each cushion, its dimensions, the recommended material (marine vinyl or Sunbrella), foam type and thickness, and pricing. We include photos from the marina visit annotated with our recommendations.

3

Cushion Collection

We collect the cushions from your boat. For boats with many cushions, we can work in stages — doing helm seats and cockpit cushions first, then bow and aft cushions — so you are never completely without seating if you need to use the boat.

4

Workshop Reupholstery

Old covers and foam are removed. New closed-cell marine foam is cut to exact dimensions. New covers are sewn with double-stitched bonded polyester thread, fitted with YKK marine zippers where applicable, and pulled over the foam. Standard turnaround is 10 to 14 working days.

5

Delivery and Fitting

We return the finished cushions to your boat and install them. Every cushion is checked for fit in its designated position. We verify that snaps, Velcro, and tie-down straps align correctly. Any minor adjustments are made on the spot.

Extending the Life of Your Boat Upholstery

Marine upholstery in Singapore will always degrade faster than indoor furniture due to environmental exposure. However, proper care can double the lifespan of your cushions.

  • Use a cockpit cover when moored — reduces UV exposure by 95%, the single biggest factor in vinyl degradation
  • Rinse cushions with fresh water after every trip — removes salt crystals that dry and crack vinyl over time
  • Clean with marine vinyl cleaner monthly — mild, pH-neutral cleaner only; never use bleach or household detergent
  • Apply marine vinyl protectant quarterly — restores UV inhibitors and keeps vinyl supple in Singapore's heat
  • Stand cushions on edge when not in use — allows air circulation on both sides, preventing mould in trapped moisture
  • Remove cushions during extended absence — if leaving the boat for weeks, stow cushions below in a ventilated space

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does boat seat reupholstery cost in Singapore?
Boat cushion reupholstery starts from $150 per cushion for standard cockpit cushions. Helm seats cost $400 to $800. Full cockpit cushion sets range from $1,500 to $4,000. All prices include marine-grade vinyl or Sunbrella fabric and closed-cell foam.
What material is best for boat seats in Singapore?
Marine-grade vinyl is best for seats exposed to direct water and sun. For sheltered interior seating, Sunbrella marine acrylic provides a softer, more breathable alternative. Standard furniture vinyl or fabric should never be used on boats — it fails within months in Singapore's climate.
What foam do you use for boat cushions?
We use closed-cell marine foam that does not absorb water. It drains in seconds, resists mould even in Singapore's 80-90% humidity, and maintains its shape for years. Standard open-cell furniture foam soaks up water and grows mould within days on a boat.
Can you collect cushions from my marina?
Yes. We visit your boat, measure and photograph cushions, then collect them for workshop reupholstery. Finished cushions are delivered and fitted back on your boat. We service all Singapore marinas including ONE15, Raffles Marina, RSYC, Keppel Bay, and Changi Sailing Club.
How long does boat upholstery last in Singapore?
Quality marine vinyl with closed-cell foam lasts 5 to 8 years in Singapore. Using a cockpit cover extends this to 8-10 years. Non-marine materials typically last only 6-18 months before visible degradation in Singapore's UV, humidity, and salt conditions.
Can you match my existing boat seat colour?
Yes. We carry a wide range of marine vinyl colours and textures. We bring sample swatches to the marina visit so you can compare against your boat's colour scheme. Custom colour matching is available for larger projects.
